Welcoming CJ Idol as Preservation Specialist

Welcoming CJ Idol as Preservation Specialist

We are delighted to welcome Kernersville native CJ Idol into the newly created role of Preservation Specialist at Körner’s Folly! This position represents an important investment in the ongoing care of our historic buildings and collections, and brings a familiar friend’s expertise more fully into the life of the house.

A Registered Professional Archaeologist, CJ holds a master’s degree in anthropology from East Carolina University and a graduate certificate in museum studies from Harvard Extension School. His background spans archaeological fieldwork, museum leadership, collections stewardship, historical research, and public interpretation.

As Executive Director of the Museum and Archives of Rockingham County, CJ oversaw historic properties and archival collections, established collections-management policies, and led substantial facilities improvements. His experience also includes interpretation and research at Old Salem, archaeological investigations with New South Associates and the William and Mary Center for Archaeological Research, and service as chair of the Forsyth County Historic Resources Commission.

CJ’s connection to the Folly began in Visitor Services in 2016. More recently, he has contributed to exhibits, research, and public programs as a volunteer and consultant, including helping secure our National Trust for Historic Preservation grant for mural conservation assessment and planning.

In his new role, CJ will coordinate routine inspections, preventive care, and preservation documentation; support the organization and care of collections and archives; and work with qualified contractors and conservation professionals to carry projects forward. He will also welcome visitors and contribute to interpretation, keeping preservation closely connected to the daily experience of the museum.

We believe CJ’s combination of research skills, practical experience, and regional preservation relationships will help us recognize needs early, make thoughtful decisions, and deepen our understanding of the house and its collections. His appointment strengthens our ability to care for the Folly while sharing its stories with a growing community.

Please join us in welcoming CJ to this new chapter at Körner’s Folly! He may be reached at preservation@kornersfolly.org.
