The Körner’s Folly Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Suzanna Ritz Malliett has been promoted to the position of Executive Director. She has served as Operations & Programs Manager at Körner’s Folly since November 2018. In her new role, Malliett will be responsible for leading and directing the daily operations of the historic house museum, restoration projects, fundraising activities, board relations, financial management, marketing, and outreach activities.
“Suzanna’s past experience with the organization will be an asset as we move forward with our strategic initiatives for the sustainable growth of the Körner’s Folly Foundation,” said Norma Pearman, Board President. “Her four years of work in creating innovative programs and facilitating excellent visitor experiences, as well as her passion for sharing the story of this unique historic site, will serve her well in her new leadership role.”
Prior to her position as Operations & Programs Manager with the Körner’s Folly Foundation, Malliett worked as a museum educator for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, Louisiana. She holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from Salem College and a master’s degree in arts administration from the University of New Orleans. She has also taught visual arts-integrated classes for students in pre-K through 12th grade in New Orleans public schools, worked as an exhibitions steward for the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, and assisted with collections management for MUSE Winston-Salem. Additionally, she enjoys exploring under-represented local histories, gardening, visiting museums of all kinds, and thrifting.
“I have so enjoyed my time with the Körner’s Folly Foundation over the past few years,” said Malliett. “My favorite experiences have included collaborating with local organizations, businesses, and artists, and helping visitors to forge connections with the arts, the history of Körner’s Folly, and with each other. I’m very excited to use the skills and knowledge I have gained as Operations & Programs Manager to continue to strengthen the organization’s presence in Kernersville and beyond.”
The Körner’s Folly Foundation has made this hire to support its mission of preserving and restoring Körner’s Folly for the education and enjoyment of the public as well as its strategic planning goals of deepening connection, widening access, and growing sustainable infrastructure. The Körner’s Folly Foundation posted the Executive Director position in December, 2022. A seven-person search committee fielded applications and made the final decision to hire Malliett in mid-January, 2023.
