In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the May Taste of History program welcomes photographer and blogger Kelly Gomez of The Forgotten South.

Beginning her project in 2010, Kelly has traveled extensively throughout the American South, photographing and sharing the stories of “forgotten” places that remain deeply connected to the region’s history. Through her lens, she documents historic churches, homes, graveyards, villages, and other sites that have been shaped by time, change, and the passage of generations.

Join us for an engaging program as Kelly discusses the impact of time and transformation on these historic landscapes. Her travels often take her down rural roads and into quiet corners of the South where she encounters structures and communities that appear lost to history. From there, she researches their past, uncovering the stories behind these places and sharing them with audiences through her photography and writing.

Join us on May 2 to celebrate Historic Preservation Month and to hear about the work Kelly Gomez does. To learn more about the remarkable stories and places featured by The Forgotten South, please visit their website: https://theforgottensouth.com/

The Taste of History program is held in the Community Room of the John & Bobbie Wolfe Visitor Center. Program Admission is free and includes light refreshments. No pre-registration is required.
